CHEVELEY ROAD CLUB

The Cheveley Road and District Working Mens' Club was opened on Tuesday 2nd March 1937 by Mr. Grafton Pryor. They had secured Douglas Lodge, Cheveley Road , premises that could accommodate 100 persons in the main club room.
to quote from the original rules the Club was established "to afford its members the means of social intercourse, mutual helpfulness, mental and moral improvement and rational recreation" and "any working man of good character of not less than 18 years of age shall be eligible for election as a paying member".

The first Committee consisted
President: Mr. Grafton Pryor J.P.
Vice Presidents; Mr. Seymour Cole, J.P. and Mr. W.J. Raphael
Treasurer: Mr. H. Buck
Secretary: Mr. P. Chadwick
Committee: Messrs A.Hodgkins; D. Blades; L.Nickson; M.Claydon; W.Fordham; F.Sims; E.Hogg; W.Gould; J.Cavell and J.W.Thompson
Steward: Mr. F.Hodgkins
The membership at the start stood at 165.
