The 15th century map in Peter May's book "Newmarket, Medieval and Tudor" , places it on the High Street, a short way east of Market Street, around current Bull.

Peter May's "Newmarket 500 years" records in 1472 : "Henry Dale paid only 10d rent for The Bell".
Peter May's "Newmarket Inventories 1662 to 1715" (required reading for Newmarket Local History) says that John Funston held from the lord of the manor the Sword and the Bell , being respectively to the west and east of Market Street

There is a mention of The Bell Inn, in Newmarket in the Bury and Norwich Post of 4th November 1835
